Project OHANA

 Home for the Lone

Food, warmth and care are the three essential components of societal definition of a home. As such, Home for the Lone aims to build not just a house but a home for lonely elderly through provision of food, warmth and care via regular interaction.

Home for the Lone is a long-term outreach programme which aims to create a caring and loving environment for elderly who stay alone in their household through regular visits. By having youths visiting the elderly on a monthly basis, the mission of this programme is for youths to build and sustain a close relationship and rapport with the elderly, allowing them to feel involved in the community despite the fast pace progress of Singapore. The monthly interaction aims to support the elderly on both material and emotional well-being through regular two-way communications and simple acts of kindness such as tidying the households for the elderly and provision of staple food as it is believed that what warms the stomach warms the heart. Home for the Lone is set to be a long-term programme implemented to stay through the years, with the mission of impacting the lives of elderly in the society.

 Young @ THearts

Young at THearts is a long-term outreach programme that aims to create a loving and supportive environment for children from lower-income families through regular visits. By having youth volunteers visiting the children on a monthly basis, this programme aims to create and sustain close relationships between volunteers and beneficiaries, so as to make the beneficiaries feel that they are part of the community.

Apart from the sustainment of close relationship with the children to provide emotional support, this programme also aim to expose the beneficiaries to a series of skills that they are less likely to be exposed to due to financial constraints in the family. Thus, every month, hands-on programme will be conducted by the volunteers for the beneficiaries, including soft skills workshop, arts & craft programme, sports programme etc. In the long run, all these programmes serve to ignite the interest within the beneficiaries, allowing them to acquire a sustainable passion.
